Michael C. Gates is a litigation associate at Weston Herzog LLP in the civil litigation practice group.
Mr. Gates completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, San Diego, where he served on the College Judicial Board and earned Provost’s Honors before graduating with Bachelors of Arts degrees in Psychology and Communications.
He attended law school at California Western School of Law where he received the Creative Problem Solving Scholarship and earned his Juris Doctorate. While attending law school, Mr. Gates was a member of the Pro Bono Honor Society – having worked for the Family Justice Center, Affordable Housing Advocates, Street Law San Diego, and the Bail Project – and received the Wiley M. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services. He also received an Academic Achievement Award in Legal Writing.
Since becoming a member of the California State Bar in 2010, Mr. Gates has gained extensive experience in insurance defense litigation, including cases involving product liability, premises liability, motor vehicle negligence, dog bites, and breach of contract. He has substantial deposition experience and effective negotiation skills. He has also successfully taken cases to trial and binding arbitration with favorable results, including defense verdicts.
